Submitted films can be of any genre but must follow the theme of TEC. Films must be between three and five minutes long and entirely in English.
Films must include only material (visual and audio) created by the students or for which they have copyright. Any material from other sources or used without the author’s permission will be considered a copyright violation and will result in the disqualification of the film from TEC.
The number of students working on a film is unlimited, but only students can be the screenwriters, directors, editors, and actors.
Films must be submitted three months before TEC if a pre-selection takes place, or two months before TEC if there is no pre-selection. No film will be accepted after the deadline. All films must be sent by e-mail in an acceptable video format, and not larger that 500 MB – please compress the file as much as possible. All submitted materials should be anonymised; nowhere should there be any mention of the names of students/participants and/or their school. To avoid any technical problems, please send the films before the deadline, as we will otherwise not be able to advise you on how to resolve them.
If a pre-selection is necessary due to the large number of submissions, the judges will decide which films will be invited to TEC. All invited students will receive their invitations two months before TEC. However, even students whose films are not selected for TEC will receive detailed written feedback from the judges!
All films invited to TEC will be published on this website so that the audience can vote and select the winner according to the audience vote. Online voting will take place one month before TEC.
At TEC, a film can be presented by a maximum of four students per school.
Invited films will be shown at TEC before the judges, who will talk with the student-authors, provide feedback on each film, and ultimately select the winner of the Film Challenge based on the following criteria:
- relevance to the theme of TEC
- cinematography / visual quality
- editing
- sound and music
- direction
- message clarity / thematic coherence
- emotional impact / engagement
- pronunciation and fluency, dialogue naturalness
- English language proficiency
- creativity and originality.
The winning primary-school and secondary-school films will be shown at the Closing Ceremony.
