Submitted plays can be of any genre but must follow the theme of TEC and last from 5 to 10 minutes.
The play must not violate copyright.
The number of students working on a play is unlimited, but only students can be the authors/playwrights, directors, actors, costume designers, and set designers.
The maximum number of actors per play is four, and no more than four students may come to TEC to perform the play.
Play scripts must be submitted three months before TEC if a pre-selection takes place, or two months before TEC if there is no pre-selection. No play script will be accepted after the deadline. All play scripts must be sent by e-mail in a PDF format. No other format will be accepted. All submitted materials should be anonymised; nowhere should there be any mention of the names of students/participants and/or their school. To avoid any technical problems, please send the play scripts before the deadline, as we will otherwise not be able to advise you on how to resolve them.
In the case of a pre-selection due to a large number of submitted plays, the judges will decide which plays will be invited to TEC. All invited students will receive an invitation two months before TEC.
No props will be provided by the TEC organizers – the participants must bring everything with them.
The invited plays will be performed before the judges, who will talk with the students, provide feedback on each performance, and ultimately select the winner of the Drama Challenge based on the following criteria:
- relevance to the theme of TEC
- quality of playwriting and directing: plot coherence and development, message clarity, and thematic depth
- quality of acting
- stage presence and delivery: use of space and movement; use of props, costumes, and set design
- voice and pronunciation
- characterization and interaction
- English language proficiency
- creativity and originality.
